The Arctic has no land mass. There are some small islands that are the source of political conflict, and left the track, but as part of Europe and Asia.
Antarctica was originally a part of the same mega-continent, a landmass in the world. It has some mountains and active volcanoes. The South Pole is a very high altitude, 9300 m, but below the earth is estimated at less than 500 meters. It has the highest average elevation above sea level from all continents.
Anartica its size is larger than in Europe. Most of the wilderness of Antarctica is due to lack of rainfall. The driest place in the world is in Antarctica.
After the break with the super-continent evovled life and fauna was simlar to Australia, which was still connected. These included reptiles, birds and marsupials.
Most animals have disappeared as the continent to the south. Survivors to be successful, penguins, sea lions and snow petrels.
To be honest, I think they are frozen, but they were not places like aqueous
